One Fine Day

I came across a sticky situation today, and it left me turning once again to my faithful google search engine. Picture it - Brand new boots. The apple of my eye for the week. The closest thing to my heart since the last pair I bought. My last thought at night. The star in my dreams. The first thing to turn to in the morning. And now, here sit my boots... with GUM on the sole (or spelt "soul" if I had it my way, because shoes have lives too, you know). So now I am left wondering what to do to prevent further harm and destruction to the bottom of my boots, which have already contracted grass blades and small stones, much to my horror. So this brought me to the point I am at now. Where can we turn for useless/useful tips for such arbitrary situations? Well, here's what I know, that may help you out one fine day.

1) Gum on shoe soles - The solution is a grease based product that you can spray on and leave for five minutes to soak in and loosen the culprit. I used "spray and cook" commonly used for greasing pans and bake trays. Q20 (a product for squeaky hinges) is also recommended.

2) Ripening avocado's - The quickest way to ripen avocado's is to put them in a brown paper bag with a banana. Don't ask me about the science. But it works!

3) Cutting Onions - Instead of fighting the tears away with one hand and chopping with the other, chewing gum while chopping prevents you from crying while cutting the onions.

4) Candle wax - Removing candle wax from almost any surface, can be done by letting it cool firstly, then placing ice onto it to 'freeze' it hard, and then scraping it off with a blunt object, like a plastic, disposable knife.

5)Stockings - If you have a ladder in your stockings with no time to change or no replacement, putting clear nail polish at the ends of the ladder stops it from running any more than it has.

6) Clothes that don't fit - If you have an item of clothes that you love but the truth is, it just doesn't fit you, a solution may be to make it into something else. For an example; I was given a mini skirt by someone that was unfortunately too small. I ended up sewing the bottom into a box shape, attaching string to the top and creating an unusual hand bag.

7) Red wine stains - The best thing to remove red wine stains is white vinegar, that should be poured on generously.

8) ATM robbery - This is important and I urge you to tell everyone you know about this. If you are ever held up at an ATM and demanded to draw money, put your card in, and put in your pin BACKWARDS. So instead of 1234, you press 4321. This will still dispense the money, but also automtically send the police to the location (without the robber being aware).

9) Flat battery - If your cell phoe battery is low, and you are not able to charge it immediately, you can dial *3370# and your phone will restart with a 50% increase in battery life. This is a reserve battery space that will then be recharged again the next time you charge your phone.

10) Car keys inside car - This one, I can't say I have seen happen with success, yet I have heard of people who swear by it and it amazes me so much, that I have to share it for you to try.
If you have lost or locked your car keys inside your car (with central locking) and need to unlock it, call someone who has your spare remote. Hold your cell phone just under a meter away from your car door and have the person push the button close to the phone. If both phones are cell phones, it is meant to UNLOCK your car! Distance is not an issue, as long as the remote is held close to the phone. Take it or leave it! I'm told it really works.

Hope this helps!
